HERE'S WHAT PAST INTERNS HAVE TO SAY:
"As the advertising sales assistant, I was given the opportunity to interact with clients and spearhead projects on my own. Knowing that I was solely responsible for such important business transactions allowed me to feel like an integral part of the Davenport Team. Being able to work directly with members of the staff taught me more about the theater industry and how it operates on a day to day basis than I could have ever imagined. It was truly a pleasure to have worked at Davenport!" – Alex Piechota, Ad Sales Intern
"I had no idea what to expect when I first came to Davenport Theatrical. After reading Ken's blog about what a producer does, I became extremely interested in producing and the business side of the theatre industry. I came into Davenport as the Marketing and Promotions intern. It was a joy working directly with the community, making trades, and doing research for various types of outreach. Working with Davenport, I had opportunities I've never thought I'd have, including helping backstage with our shows, meeting important people in the industry, and being invited to exclusive performances and readings. How many college students can say that they've worked on Broadway show?! I will always treasure what I have learned at Davenport Theatrical--It was the perfect place to being my budding career. Thank you Davenport Theatrical, for the internship of a lifetime!" - Rachel Kaufman, Marketing Intern
"Working as the General Management Intern, I had the awesome opportunity to work with the company and general managers of Davenport Theatrical. Thinking quickly on my feet, trying to solve a problem (especially one involving STAR System), is probably the most important lesson I'll be taking away from this experience. Working in close proximity of the managers enabled me to learn and observe what is required to successfully run a show. I never stopped learning from the staff (and other interns!) of this company." – Anna Barth, General Management Intern
"As the Executive Intern, I was lucky to have the opportunity to interact with Ken Davenport on a daily basis and to get an inside look into the production of both Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. Aiding with investor relations, maintaining the rehearsal studio, and handling various office tasks allowed me to develop all facets of my professional skills. I’d come to work each day with a new skill to master, theatre professional to meet, or task to accomplish – from running the Godspell Open Call, researching court cases, to emailing Congressmen. I can safely say that there is never a dull moment at Davenport Theatrical. The weekly intern meetings, which offered opportunities for staff members from every department to answer questions about their jobs, were also extremely beneficial in that they allowed for all of us, regardless of our specific internship, to learn about other areas of the theatre industry. In addition to the knowledge I acquired, I’m also grateful for the access to free tickets to various performances throughout New York, readings, master classes, and even a Tony Awards Party! It was a pleasure to work in such a positive environment under such a knowledgeable and professional staff." – Jenny Gorelick, Executive Intern
"I feel so fortunate that I was able to take my internship at Davenport Theatrical and turn it into a career. I learned more during my summer as the Marketing Intern for Davenport Theatrical Enterprises than I ever could have imagined. The thing that sets an internship with DTE apart from so many others is that you get an unprecedented amount of hands-on experience in so many areas. In any given week, I would go from assisting the Director of Marketing with research for a new Broadway show to giving my input on a new Broadway board game to assisting the Company Manager with an opening night party for an off-Broadway show. The DTE office is an amazing place to learn about all aspects of commercial theatre, from Producing and Marketing to Management and Sales, you'll learn it all. I can't think of a better place to take your passion for theater and turn it into a career." – Ben Skinner, Former Marketing Intern
"Interning at Davenport Theatrical was my first step into the world of theater. What I saw as a first step turned out to be a giant leap! My first week consisted of a Broadway show opening, delivering packages to every stage door in the Theater District, and learning how Internet marketing and web design contribute to the success of a show. Over the last two years, I’ve taken what I initially learned in my internship and applied it to being the company manager of The Awesome 80s Prom. This is an amazing office, a creative environment, and a wonderful place to learn about all aspects of theater." – Marie Gossman
